Alexis Dunbar told WFLA-TV she had spent the evening at a friend`s house and returned to her home the next day.
When she entered the house, she noticed the huge alligator in her bathroom. She screamed and the alligator hissed at her.
Her boyfriend propped a small table by the bathroom to keep the gator inside until an officer from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission showed up to take it away.
What concerned her most was that it seemed the alligator had been there for some time.
"My neighbour said she heard on my porch, things being knocked over at 3am. So he must have been here all night until I got home at 12pm the next day."
Dunbar believes the alligator used a doggie door on the back porch to get inside the house.
She said she had noticed it on the bank of the river near her house for a few days and thought it must have been eying off her cats.
It is currently mating season for alligators in the US and wildlife officials urge people to be extremely cautious, especially around water.
