Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The 5th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) meeting will open here on Friday to discuss environmental, educational and health issues.

"The aim of the meeting is to enhance cooperation among ASEAN member states in the socio-cultural field," Deputy for Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports to the Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Sugihartatmo said here on Thursday.

The one-day meeting would take place at Borobudur Hotel with Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono as the chairman of the event, he said.

The meeting would bring together socio-cultural ministers from 10 ASEAN member states - Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, he said.

He said the outcome of the meeting would be brought to the ASEAN Summit at the Jakarta Convention Hall on May 7 for approval.

All ASEAN socio-culture ministers had confirmed their plan to attend the meeting on Friday, he said.
