"Railway transportation in Indonesia is more advantageous and plays more significant roles in serving the people if compared with other modes of transportation," Sigit Sosiantomo of the House Commission V on transportation, said here on Monday.
He made the remarks with regard to preparations to provide transportation services for Idul Fitri travelers in the post-fasting lebaran festivities this year.
The lawmaker said that if railway transportation system in the country provided enough services it would be able to generate the country`s economy.
He said that the government should in the future carry out and be consistent with the massage of the 1945 Constitution on the railway services which firmly outlined the division of functions between in the railway businesses, namely the function as a regulator and as an operator.
"Ahead the government must be consistent in carrying out the constitution and firmly divided the business railway functions as a regulator and as an operator," he said.
