"Our team is investigating intensively to find out who the boat belongs to," head of the Yogyakarta Water and Air Police SAR Development Division Commissioner S Priyono said on Thursday.
He said the investigation covers the ports in Kulon Progo regency to Gunung Kidul.
"The data and information that we have collected cover where the boat came from, it features and type," he said.
Priyono said the police was still unable to determine the owners of the vessel," he said.
He also said that it was not sure whether the boat had been used for a crime commited in Gunung Kidul regency, like crossing illegal immigrants in 2010
The empty boat was found by a fishermen, Supri Triwul, on Tuesday (June 28) at about noon.
The empty boat also has no engine and was found some 20 miles from the coast. It is eight meters long and one meter wide, with several seats.
" There are no luggage, like hand bags, shoes, or any other things normally used by people, or fishing nets, Gunung Kidul SAR team operation coordinator Subowo said.
The SAR team has placed the vessel at the local SAR team`s office. (*)
