Bukittinggi, West Sumatra (ANTARA News) - No more thick white clouds were reported to come out of the recently erupted West Sumatra`s Mount Marapi.

According to a Geology Volcanological and Disaster Mitigation Agency (BGPVMB) spokesperson Warseno here Tuesday that there is no more white clouds coming out of the crater but seismograph still recording several seismic activities.

"Seismic activities still occur, and now the agency has declared the mount`s status at alert level II. The climbing ban within three kilometers from the crater is also still imposed," Warseno said.

The mount`s activities are still being monitored using the report of the seismograph located in Laso and Batupalano sub-districts.

BMKG has installed three seismographs and a digital analog instrument at an altitude of 2,000 meters in Batupalano, and at an altitude of 1,500 meters in Lasi.

The 2,981 meters high Mount Marapi which above sea level is located in Tanahdatar sub-district, Agam district, West Sumatra, became active on August 3, 2011.

The mountain had also been spewing volcanic ash with a sulfuric smell 1,000 meters high covering a number of areas in West Sumatra, such as Agam, Tanahdatar, Pariaman, Padangpariaman, and Padangpanjang.

Mount Marapi in Bukittinggi last erupted in 2005, in standby status, and the city of Bukittinggi has become one of the evacuation zones.

In a normal active state, the mountain adjacent to Mount Tandikek Singgalang had always been a popular destination of domestic climbers.
