Bali`s non-oil/non-gas exports to Australia rose every month owing to the rising number of Australian tourists visiting the world-renowned tourist island, the head of the export section at the Bali provincial industry and trade office, Putu Bagiada said here on Friday.
In the first semester of 2011 alone, Bali`s non-oil/non-gas exports to Australia totaled US12.5 million, he said.
He said the significant development of the Bali tourism industry had a great impact on the province`s exports to other countries, particularly handicraft goods.
The growing trade between Bali and Australia had had a favorable impact on the number of Australian tourist arrivals in the province because among the Australian tourists were businessmen and importers, he said.
At least 5 percent of foreign tourists visiting Bali was businessmen who came to the resort island to make business deals, he said.
Data from the Bali provincial tourism office show a total of 1,571,270 foreign tourists visited Bali in the first half of 2011.
Australia remains on top of Bali`s foreign tourist sources with 360,774 tourists, followed by China with 106,401 tourists and Japan with 89,490 tourists.
Bali`s non-oil/non-gas exports to Australia include handicraft goods, farm commodities and aquatic products. The handicraft goods include garments while the farm commodities cover a variety of fruits. The export of aquatic products is mainly dominated by tuna.
