"The victims were trapped on the third floor of the shop and pronounced dead on their way to the hospital," the commander of the Bogor city fire fighting squad, Djaya said.
The cause of the fire which broke out at 10.31 a.m. was still unknown. The source of the fire came from the first floor and later spread to the second floor, he said.
"The shop was locked so fire fighters found it difficult to put out the blaze," he said.
Djaya said fire fighters had difficulties extinguishing the blaze and evacuating the victims as the shop had no emergency stairs.
"The fire could be put out 30 minutes later and the victims had been evacuated and taken to PMI hospital," he said.
It was believed that the two victims who were housemaids were killed after they had been exposed to too much smoke.
At least six fire trucks were sent to the scene to put out the blaze.
Police are still investigating the cause of the fire. (*)
