Indonesian Deputy Ambassador to Thailand Primanto Hendrasmoro said this year`s flood was the worst that had hit Thailand in the past ten years.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian embassy in Bangkok said on Wednesday, if the present flood in the Thai capital had not receded within this week, it was ready to rescue any Indonesian citizen who might be trapped by the flood waters.
Embassy official Suargana Pringganu was reported telling a visiting group of Surabaya city official sat the embassy that so far no Indonesian was known to be in difficulties by the flood in Bangkok which has been described as one of the major natural disasters that have truck most of Southeast Asia.
According to Suargana, a total of 1.780 Indonesians were living in Thailand of whom 300 were students and the rest professionals.
Fifteen of the students lived in a part of Bangkok where the flood waters were reported to be not so deep, only 10 centimeters. he said.
"As for the professionals, they live in apartments in the central part of Bangkok and seem not to be much affected by the flood," he said.
But the Indonesian embassy in Bangkok remained alert to the possibility of the flood not receding within a week or even longer.
"As the flood is yet to recede, the embassy is focusing on preparing logistical aid for Indonesians who may be trapped in the flood," he said.

"As many as 33 Thai provinces are flooded. Industrial areas are also affected and suffering great financial losses," Primanto said.
According weather forcasts, the flooding would continue until November 2011, and the Bangkok city government was trying to prevent the flood waters from entering the city center by channeling them into the sea through small rivers.(*)
