Sukoharjo, C Java (ANTARA News) - Hundreds of houses in Laban village, Mojolaban sub-district, Sukoharjo regency, were still inundated on Monday following heavy rain on Sunday from the afternoon to the night.

The flood waters with many parts up to 1 meters deep inundated the area on the east side of the Bengawan Solo river.

Residents whose houses are inundated had to move to higher and safer places. Many of them sought refuge in the Bengawan Solo dike, which is higher than their homes.

A Laban villager, Parno (55), said the flood waters came at midnight. "This is the first floods in the rainy sea this time," he said.

He said the area had indeed become a flood customer, especially following heavy rain in and around Solo.

He said it would take quite some time for the flood waters to recede. In the meantime, rescue and SAR team from Sukoharjo had been made ready to help the flood victims.

They are also equipped with rubber boats and other equipment. The weather in Solo and surroundings on Monday afternoon were still thick with black clouds. (H-NG)
