"It means there were only 45 people on board the ill-fated plane."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Ten foreigners were among the victims of the Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100 plane that crashed near Mount Salak in Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday.

"Of the 10 foreigners, eight were from Russia, one from the United States, and one from France," Executive Director of Indonesian Disaster Victims Identification (DVI) Committee Senior Commissioner Anton Castilani said at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport here on Friday.

Anton said the DVI team from the National Police Headquarters had earlier received a list of 50 passengers on the plane, but in reality five of them had not boarded the plane.

"It means there were only 45 people on board the ill-fated plane when it crashed during a demonstration flight on Wednesday," he noted.

Anton said the rescue workers had discovered some fragments of the ill-fated plane at Cipelang village of Cijeruk sub-district in Bogor.

On Thursday evening in a telephone conversation with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Russian President Vladimir Putin appreciated the government and the people of Indonesia for handling the accident responsibly.

Presidential special staff for international relations Teuku Faizasyah said Putin offered his condolences to the families of the victims in the air accident and also promised his country`s cooperation in handling and investigating the crash.

Teuku said President Yudhoyono welcomed Putin`s offer of cooperation and contacted the responsible authorities in Indonesia to immediately follow up on it.

Efforts to evacuate the victims are still being made while the location of the wreckage has been discovered.

There were a number of domestic airline company representatives and journalists in the plane.
