The event was attended by among others Inspector General Andha Fauzie Miraza representing Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sharif C Sutardjo, and Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea Nicholas Tandi Damen, the ministry said in a press statement.
The Expo 2012 is being organized from May 12 to August 12, 2012 under a theme of "The Living Ocean and Coast: Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities" and a sub-themes of "Coastal Development and Preservation, New Resource Technology, and Creative Maritime Activities."
The theme of Indonesia`s pavilion at the expo is "Wonderful Indonesia: Sustaining Tropical Diversity".
Indonesia has restated its commitment to "Blue Economy", which is a new economic development policy placing the maritime resource as the mainstream of the national economic development.
The Blue Economy needs innovation, technology and knowledge to provide more job opportunities for the people. In the Blue Economy policy, there are three integrated pillars, namely ecosystem, economic, and social, according to Miraza.
Indonesia`s participation in the Expo 2012 Yeosu is expected to help attract foreign investors in the maritime industry and promote Indonesia`s maritime political policy internationally.
In the Expo, Indonesia sets up a D-MAX hall having a capacity of 150 seats, to screen a film featuring the country`s marine biological diversity.
Around 3,000 to 4,000 people visit Indonesia`s pavilion daily, and the ministry hopes to attract a total of 300,000 people during the expo.
Indonesia chooses Coelacanth, an ancient fish still existing in North Sulawesi waters, as its mascot in the expo.
The international maritime exhibition is being participated in by 130 nations and has targeted to attract a total of eight million visitors. (*)
