At the qualification round of the tournament, Sony defeated Anand Pawar of India on Tuesday morning (June 12) in three sets, 21-23, 21-10 and 21-9.
In addition, Sony, ranked 65th in the world also defeated Brice Leverder from France in straight sets 21-18, 21-19.
The prominent tournament with the total prize of US$ 650,000 started Tuesday in the Istora (sport hall) here.
The tournament will last from June 12 through 17.
In the previous Thailand`s Grand Prix Gold Badminton Open, Sony defeated Chen Yuekun from China in the final round on Sunday in straight sets 21-17, 21-14.
The champion title of the men`s single event of the tournament offering a US$120,000 cash prize was the only title won by Indonesian players taking part in the championship.
Sony beat the Chinese player who he had also defeated in Macau Open two years ago.
Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia and Lin Dan of China were absent in the Djarum Indonesia Open. (*)
