"Border disputes and conflicts related to territorial claims are still rampant in the ASEAN and Asia Pacific."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono thanked ASEAN leaders for their efforts in finding a solution for the South China Sea issue during his state address delivered before the parliament, a day before the country`s 67th commemoration of Independence Day.

"We regret that the last ASEAN ministerial meeting failed to issue a joint statement on the South China Sea matter. However, owing to intensive and proactive diplomacy measures, ASEAN has now adopted a six-point agenda on the South China Sea," the president said in a state of the nation address before the Parliament here on Thursday.

He added that Indonesia continues to encourage ASEAN`s role in dealing with the several challenges the country has faced recently.

"Border disputes and conflicts related to territorial claims are still rampant in the ASEAN and Asia Pacific regions," Yudhoyono added.

He also reiterated Indonesia`s concern for the Rohingya community in Myanmar, adding that the ongoing democratic and nation-building process in the country should also spotlight this human tragedy.

Yudhoyono said that after the letter he sent to Myanmar leader Thein Sein about the issue, he hopes that the country will adopt concrete measures to resolve the Muslim Rohingya problem.
