"In the next meeting, too, Indonesia is expected to contribute."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Yudhoyono is scheduled to speak at the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week, according to Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa.

"The President will lead the Indonesian delegation to the annual meeting of the United Nations, which would be held at the UN headquarters in New York," he said after a cabinet meeting here on Tuesday.

"Indonesia has so far played an active role in the United Nations. In the next meeting, too, Indonesia is expected to contribute," Marty added.

President Yudhoyono will talk about the urgent need for the UN to step up efforts to resolve conflicts worldwide through proper diplomatic channels, he stated.

Besides attending the UN session, the President is also scheduled to attend a meeting that will discuss post-2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). He will co-chair the meeting with David Cameron and Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

"Together, they will begin a process to build a new international framework for development which will become operational after the current MDGs expire in 2015. The process involves preparation of reports, which are expected to be ready by May 2013," Marty said.

President Yudhoyono will hold meetings with the Egyptian president, the UN general assembly president, the UN secretary general, the Norwegian prime minister and a number of leaders from other countries as well.

"The President will also attend some promotional events relating to investment in Indonesia, along with an investment forum at the New York Stock Exchange. He will be recognised for his contribution to the environment, economy and international peace," Marty stated.
