Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) may now access data of companies registered with the ministry of justice and human rights following the signing of a cooperation agreement here on Friday.

"Colleagues from KPK can now access directly at anytime data about companies registered with the ministry`s Directorate of Administration of General Laws," the Director Deneral of Administration of General Laws, Aidir Amin Daud, said at the KPK Building here on Friday.

He said the cooperation was part of efforts in helping KPK check the truth of data and eradicate corruption.

"We have given the password to KPK so that authorized KPK officials could access physical data at the ministry at any time," he said adding "there are more than 500,000 data of registered companies in Indonesia."

Before the agreement was signed KPK has to write to the ministry when it wishes to access data of companies in the office.

KPK deputy for prevention Iswan Helmi meanwhile said the signing of the cooperation is intended to prevent problems in case changes of personnel happen in the offices.

He said the cooperation is useful for both prevention or enforcement purposes.

"For an enforcement purpose it can be used to collect provisional data while for a prevention purpose it could be used for verifying of reports of state officials` wealth," he explained.

Helmy said he believed in the validity of the data adding "the data has been verified by the Directorate of General Laws."

Aidir also said that the data at the ministry are the most valid as their accuracies have been verified. (*)
