Sukabumi, W. Java (ANTARA News) - The Gede-Pangrango National Park Board (TNGGP) will temporarily close the park`s climbing lane to conserve the plants and animals in the park. In addition, the board is also looking into improving the park`s facilities.

"The climbing lane will be closed from 12 midnight, January 1, 2013. We have informed the public that the Cibodas gate, the Mount Putri gate and the Selabintana gate will be closed," said the Chief of the TNGGP, Herry Subagiadi, on Wednesday.

He said the climbing lane will be closed to preserve the forest and to prevent any damage to the park.

The closure of the climbing lane will also allow us to grow new plants and rear new animals, he said.

Other tourist spots around the TNGGP will not be closed.

The Forest Police and a security team will guard the climbing lane.

"The climbing lane will be closed till March 2013. If there is an emergency or a disaster, we will extend the duration of the closure," Herry said.

According to the board, there are no damaged facilities, and there are no landslides covering the lane.

"We want to conserve a wide diversity of organisms within an ecosystem. The TNGGP is home to many animals, including the Javanese Gibbon and the Javanese Eagle. There are leopards, pangolins and other species in the TNGGP too," Herry said.(*)
