"I am disappointed because many people have yet to understand the procedures involved in KUR, while the government spends trillions of rupiah on that program," the head of state said.Tanjung Pasir, Banten (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called on regional government officials to step up efforts to raise awareness of the Credit for People Business (KUR) program among the public.
"I am disappointed because many people have yet to understand the procedures involved in KUR, while the government spends trillions of rupiah on that program," the head of state said at a gathering of fishermen in Tanjung Pasir village, Tangerang district, Banten province, on Friday.
On the occasion, President Yudhoyono urged the district head and village officials to explain to the locals how they could obtain credit from KUR to run their businesses.
"Many fishermen still do not understand how to benefit from KUR. They should ask the nearby BRI banks to explain the process to them," he stated.
Meanwhile, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM) Minister Syarif Hassan said the government had set aside Rp32 trillion from the state budget for KUR last year.
"But this year, the government has allocated Rp37 trillion to the program," he pointed out.
Therefore, Syarif urged all Indonesian people to try and understand the procedure of getting KUR assistance for their businesses.
"The people must actively seek out information about the KUR program from reliable parties," he said. (*)
