Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s Constitutional Court (MK) has postponed two hearings scheduled for Thursday in the wake of the floods in Jakarta.

"The floodwaters inundated the basement (of the MK building) and cut off the electricity supply, making it impossible to hold the hearings," MK spokesman Akil Mochtar said here on Thursday.

"The Constitutional Court was earlier scheduled to conduct two hearings on Thursday. The first one was on the General Elections law and the second was on Indonesian Criminal Code Procedures (KUHAP)," he explained.

The roads around the MK building were flooded, with many parts of Jakarta already inundated.

"The stakeholders of the hearings also failed to come. We (the judges and MK`s officers) also cannot go inside the building because of the power outage," Akil pointed out.

Incessant heavy rains since Wednesday evening triggered floods and caused severe traffic jams, paralyzing Jakarta. Schools were closed and both government and private offices wore a deserted look because people were unable to reach their workplaces.

The presidential palace and the Jakarta Governor`s office were also flooded.
