Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA News) - Former Banyuwangi district head Ratna Ani Lestari, tried for alleged corruption by a Surabaya district court, is facing a sentence of nine years in jail.

Prosecutor Firmanyah asked the court on Tuesday to punish Ratna with a nine year`s imprisonment saying Ratna was found guilty of causing a loss of Rp19.7 billion to the state fund in the process of land acquisition for the Blimbingsari airport project in 2006-2007.

The loss in state fund was based on the result of an audit conducted by the office of the State Audit Agency in Surabaya, which said the land price was inflated.

The prosecutor also asked the court to slap a fine of Rp500 million on Ratna, who was Banyuwangi district head in the period of 2005-2010.

Ratna was also found guilty of making herself as a team leader for the land procurement, a position which should be held by the secretary of the district administration, the prosecutor told the court.

Ratna said after the court session, she had been sacrificed in the case saying the one who approved the disbursement of fund for the land procurement was "left untouched by the law."

"It is the political risk I am facing as a chief of a district," she said. (*)
