"In 2014 our nation will hold elections. Let`s stay away from unfair political practices, such as black campaigns and other bad practices," President Yudhoyono said.
Jakarta (Antara News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono appealed to all sides on Tuesday to stay away from black campaigns ahead of the 2014 elections.

"In 2014 our nation will hold elections. Let`s stay away from unfair political practices, such as black campaigns and other bad practices," President Yudhoyono said at a function marking Chinese new year 2564 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Tuesday evening.

The President reminded all sides that elections are a basic instrument to ensure the continuity of national leadership and preserve the life of the nation and state.

"Let`s avoid unnecessary political tumult which may disrupt the tranquility and peace of our community. Let`s focus on great agenda for the continuity of our nation," he said.

The head of state expressed hope that no Indonesian citizen will miss the golden momentum to achieve common prosperity by giving priority to poverty eradication.

He further asked the attendance to use the momentum of new year to pray for tranquility, peace and welfare.

He said some of Indonesian people are now falling victim to natural disasters, such as flood and landslide or leading a difficult life.

"It`s time for us to show solidarity and sense of togetherness. Our solidarity must be getting stronger. Togetherness must not be separated by difference of ethnicity, faith, much less politics," he said.(*)
