"The President has signed the letter of dismissal for Aceng. He signed it today." Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has fired Garut district head Aceng HM Fikri following his recent controversial marriage.
Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi said here on Wednesday that the letter of dismissal for Aceng had been signed.
"The President has signed the letter of dismissal for Aceng. He signed it today." he said.
The minister said the President signed the letter following the Supreme Court`s ruling that the decision of the Garut district`s legislative assembly to fire Aceng HM Fikri was not against the law.
"The legislative assembly in its decision has asked the President to fire him. So, this was the request of the DPRD (legislative assembly) of Garut," he said.
He said he would immediately send the letter to West Java governor Ahmad Heryawan upon receiving the letter from the state secretariat for a follow-up.
"I think the process will finish in a week. It is only a matter of administrative procedures," he said.
The minister said following Aceng`s dismissal, present deputy district head Agus Hamdani would take over the post left by Aceng, adding the post of deputy district head would later be left vacant due to the remaining period in the post which was too short or only less than a year.
Gamawan said the president`s decision was final.
The Garut legislative assembly decided to fire Aceng following his controversial marriage with Fani Oktora that lasted only four days and violated the law.(*)
