Sanur, Bali (ANTARA News) - Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the chief patron and Supreme Council chairman of Democratic Party (PD), arrived in the hotel where the party`s Special Congress being held, here on Saturday, but he did not attend the opening ceremony.

Yudhoyono was accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono and Secretary General of Democratic Party Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono.

Upon his arrival at the hotel, Yudhoyono was welcomed by party officials.

Earlier, Vice Secretary General of Democratic Party Ramadhan Pohan on Saturday morning expressed his optimism that the meeting will be fruitful.

The congress was well prepared, including the security aspect at the congress` venue.

Several police officers monitored the security and checked vehicles and people who entered Inna Grand Hotel area in several points such as the gates and lobby area of the hotel.

Pohan said although the congress was scheduled to be held for two days until Sunday, but there is a possibility that it would be shortened to just one day.

Secretary General of the Democratic Party Jero Wacik also confirmed that the congress might be shortened.

"We hope the event will be held quickly and orderly," Jero said.

Jero said all congress officials including the Steering Committee and Organizing Committee members are ready to produce fruitful results during the congress.

Jero added the Democratic Party`s congress was organized modestly.

"We choose the hotel here because it is historical for the Democratic party as we held the first congress here. We also want to organize the congress in a simple way, not luxurious one," Jero said.
