People in Sumatra arrived at Bakauheni Port in buses, private cars, and motorbikes."Bakauheni, Lampung (ANTARA News) - On Monday, thousands of Muslims on Sumatra Island made their way to Bakauheni Port in Lampung to travel back to Java Island, said an official.
Yanus Lentanga, spokesperson for Bakauheni-based Inland Waterway Transportation Service PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, mentioned that although the flow of returning travelers peaked on Sunday, thousands of people were still seen at the port on Monday.
He noted that as of Sunday evening, a total of 96,104 people - 20,502 pedestrians and 75,602 people - taking various modes of public transport, had travelled from Bakauheni Port to Merak Port in Banten.
"People in Sumatra arrived at Bakauheni Port in buses, private cars, and motorbikes. They then travelled to their respective workplaces in Java," Yunus said.
He added that between Sunday and Monday morning, 12,124 motorcycles, 8,432 cars, and 9,118 buses and trucks had been transported from Bakauheni to Merak.
"However, more than 404 thousand passengers, 39,695 motorcycles, and 43, 472 cars and buses will arrive at Bakauheni Port later on Monday. They will be transported to Merak," Yunus said.
He mentioned that during the festive season, a total of 564,593 people from Java had travelled to their hometowns in Sumatra via Bakauheni Port.
"Therefore, PT ASDP has arranged 28 ferries to transport the passengers," he said.
