The letter is a question whether the program would not be in contrary to 17 steps to be taken by the Jakarta city administration in its attempt to cope with traffic jams in the city.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo said he has not received answer from Vice President Boediono to his letter about the government`s low cost green car program (LCGC).
"We have sent the letter on Monday last week. The letter is a question whether the program would not be in contrary to 17 steps to be taken by the Jakarta city administration in its attempt to cope with traffic jams in the city," Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi said here on Tuesday.
He said he would tell the media if he has received the answer from Boediono.
Boediono already said "we could not prohibit people from buying the cars. We would help the city administration in coping with the traffic jams."
Jokowi has said Jakarta needs cheap public transport facility not cheap cars.
On Tuesday he said he did not oppose the LCGC policy but the policy is not right.
"Jakarta is already overcrowded with cars. We need cheap, safe and convenient public transport," he said.
Meanwhile, transport observer from the University of Indonesia Tri Cahyono said the government seems to encourage the people to buy cars when road infrastructure is not ready .
Tri suggested the expansion of Transjakarta bus operations with special lane which better guarantees timeliness of arrival.
He also raised question about who is to gain from the program.
"Clearly the program will harm rather than benefit the people," he said.(*)
