"Nearly two-thirds of the Block III of the Senen Market caught fire. Currently, firefighters are trying to extinguish the blaze," president director of the city-owned market operator PD Pasar Jaya, Djangga Lubis said here on Friday.
The kiosks included imported secondhand cloth kiosks, silk-screening service kiosks and motorcycle repair kiosks.
Djingga said Block III had 3,096 business sites, of which 2,064 caught fire.
"Because of the fire, we plan to revitalize the market after the Idul Fitri festivities this year. The market, which was built in 1974, is relatively old," he added.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.(*)
