Batam, Riau Islands (Antara News) - Indonesia has targeted to take full control of its airspace over Batam dan Natuna in the Riau Islands Province by 2016, noted Suprasetyo, the head of Hang Nadim International Airport.

"One of the objectives of the Hang Nadim International Airports 24-hour flight service for national and international flights is enabling Indonesia to take control of the airspace over Natuna, which is currently controlled by Singapore," Suprasetyo informed newsmen here on Thursday.

The flights operated by various airlines at Batams international airport have steadily increased, thus it is very important for Indonesia to have full control of its airspace over Natuna, he emphasized.

To ensure the smooth implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, the Hang Nadim International Airport authority has also made all the necessary preparations, Suprasetyo added.

"In our mid-term program, we want our airport to be the biggest hub in western Indonesia and be interconnected with various countries in the Asia Pacific region," he reiterated.

Hang Nadims 24-hour flight service was launched to ensure connectivity with international airports, such as Cengkareng (Banten), Surabaya (East Java), Denpasar (Bali), Makassar (South Sulawesi), Kuala Namu (North Sumatra), and Palembang (South Sumatra), Suprasetyo pointed out. (*)
