Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, and Jusuf Kalla took oath as president and vice president during the plenary session of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) here on Monday.

"In the name of God, I take oath as the president of Indonesia and promise to fulfill my tasks properly and justly, by upholding the Constitution and all the regulations as rightly as possible," Jokowi stated.

After Jokowi was sworn in, Jusuf Kalla also took oath by promising to fulfill his obligations properly and justly and upholding the Constitution and all the regulations as the vice president.

Jokowi and Kalla were sworn in as the president and vice president for the 2014-2019 term.

The inauguration of Jokowi as the president and Kalla as the vice president was the sole agenda of the MPRs plenary session, which was chaired by its Speaker Zulkifli Hasan.

The presidential inauguration ceremony was attended 672 of the 682 members of MPR, former presidents B.J. Habibie and Megawati Soekarnoputri, while the late Abdurrahman Wahid was represented by his wife Shinta Nuriyah, and former vice presidents, Try Sutrisno and Hamzah Haz.
