"Preliminary results of our examination conducted shortly after the arrival of the bodies show that the male victim was teenager, while the female was an adult," Chief of the Surabaya-based polices DVI team Senior Commissioner Budiyono stated.
The two bodies were in good condition when they were brought in. This could help the DVI team complete their task faster after cross-checking their postmortem examination results with the ante-mortem data provided by the families of the victims, he explained.
Moreover, AirAsia pilot Captain Siregar noted that the bodies identified by the DVI team would be handed over to the families of the respective victims.
"We took the requests of the victims families into consideration. We will bear all financial expenses involved till the burial of the victims," he affirmed.
So far, search and rescue workers have located the bodies of seven victims, including the two bodies that were transported to Surabaya in East Java, from Karimata Strait near Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan.
The AirAsia flight carrying 155 passengers and seven crew members lost contact with Jakartas air traffic control tower during its flight from Juanda International Airport in Surabaya to Changi International Airport, Singapore, on Sunday (December 28).
Indonesian President Joko Widodo has appreciated the search and rescue workers for retrieving the bodies of the victims, as well as luggage and other debris, of the airbus.
