Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questioned South Tangerang Mayor Airin Rachmi Diany on Thursday as a witness in an alleged corruption case related to the procurement of health equipment in 2012.

"Airin is being questioned as a witness to the suspect Dadang Prijatna (DP) for alleged corruption in the procurement of health equipment for public health care centers (Puskesmas) in South Tangerang " KPKs Chief for Publication and Information Section, Priharsa Nugraha, remarked here on Thursday.

The South Tangerang mayor, who arrived at the KPK building at 10 a.m. local time, declined to comment on the case for which she was being questioned.

"Just wait. I want to see bapak (Tubagus Chaeri Wardana alias Wawan who is Airins husband) first before answering the questions," she noted.

Tubagus Chaeri Wardana alias Wawan is Airins husband who has also been named a suspect in the alleged corruption case related to the procurement of medical equipment.

Wawan has been held at the KPK cell since he was arrested by the anti-corruption agency on October 2, 2013. He was arrested in connection with an alleged bribery case in which he gave bribe money to former Constitutional Court chairman Akil Mochtar.

He gave bribe money worth Rp1 billion over a dispute on the result of the regional head election (Pilkada) of Lebak District, Banten.

In that case, Wawan has been sentenced to five years imprisonment.

In connection with the health equipment corruption case, the KPK has named three suspects: DP of PT MAP Mikindo Adiguna Pratama (MAP), planning bureau official Mamak Jamaksari who is the head of Health Promotion and Health Resources of South Tangerang, and Tubagus Chaeri Wardana alias Wawan who is the younger son of former Banten governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah.

The KPK charged the three suspects based on Article 2, point 1 or Article 3 of Law No.31 of 1999 on the elimination of corruption crimes as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001, juncture Article 55, point (1) point-1 of the Book on Criminal Codes.

Based on the articles, the suspects could face a jail term of 20 years and a fine of Rp1 billion.

The project was valued at Rp23 billion and was believed to have been marked up.
