We are not seeking to benefit from the current situation."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Attorney General (AG) of Indonesia HM Prasetyo said here on Wednesday that the duties of the special task force (Satgassus) he set up to tackle and settle corruption cases will not overlap with those of other law enforcement agencies.
"Each of them has its own tasks and functions to carry out. The attorney generals office also works towards eradicating corruption. There will be no overlapping of duties," he assured after a hearing with Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR), which oversees legal affairs.
He added that the police, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the attorney generals office all combat corruption but with different targets.
Prasetyo believes that when they investigate cases from different angles, it leaves no room for their tasks to overlap.
"The prosecutors office would tackle A, while the KPK would combat B, and the police, C. This way, they will not have common tasks," he explained.
The attorney general further noted that he had decided to set up the Satgassus to ensure that efforts towards fighting the crime are carried out well.
Prasetyo pointed out that the combined efforts of law enforcement agencies would yield the best results.
"We are not seeking to benefit from the current situation. We only hope that the corruption cases can be settled post haste," he emphasized.
The attorney generals office established the Satgassus on January 8 to settle both old and new corruption cases to meet public demand.
As many as 100 prosecutors have been recruited as members of the special task force. They were brought in from district and provincial prosecutors offices from across the country, following a strict selection process and thorough checks of their track records and achievements.
