Agrarian Affairs and Lay Out Minister Ferry Mulsidan, Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman and Minister for the Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya reported to the president progress made in the plan
Ferry said after the limited cabinet meeting that most of the lands are under the supervision of the minister for the environment and forestry .
Siti Nurbaya said the target of the program is agrarian reform and redistribution of lands.
"We identified that there are 13.1 million hectares of production forests that could be converted for other purposes including 6.5 million hectares for plantations, 900,000 hectares for transmigration and 1.3 million hectares for sugar plantations," she said.
She said there are still lands needed for the program of development of backward families.
Meanwhile, Amran Sulaiman said there is plan to build 10 units of sugar mills that would need 600,000 hectares of lands.
In addition, there is food estate program in Kalimantan that would need 15,000 hectares of lands and 2 million hectares of land for oil palm plantations along the border with Malaysia.
"Construction of sugar mills will need an investment of Rp50 trillion to be finance mainly with rupiah," Amran said.(*)
