... we will question JW for his alleged role in a corruption case while he was the culture and tourism minister ..."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesia Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is set to question former culture and tourism minister Jero Wacik (JW) as a suspect in a graft case on Monday.
"Today, we will question JW for his alleged role in a corruption case while he was the culture and tourism minister from 2008 to 2011," Head of the KPK Information and Publication Section Priharsa Nugraha stated.
The KPK named JW a suspect in a graft case on February 6 based on Article 2, paragraph (1) or Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 on corruption eradication.
The articles concern, among others, people who abuse their authority, opportunities, or facilities inherent to their posts or positions and enrich themselves, other people, or corporations at the expense of the states finance and economy. If they are found guilty, the perpetrators can be sentenced to a maximum jail term of 20 years and have to pay a maximum fine of Rp1 billion.
The alleged graft case at the culture and tourism ministry is believed to have inflicted state losses amounting to around Rp7 billion.
Earlier, in September 2014, the KPK had also named JW as a suspect in an alleged extortion case while he was the energy and mineral resources minister during the period between 2011 and 2013.
The KPK accused JW for his involvement in an extortion case to increase his operational funds by collecting fees from partners to finance certain programs and allocating funds for fictitious meetings, among others.
