Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana Widodo have invited children from several orphanages in the capital city to break the first days fast along with them at the state palace on Thursday.

Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa informed reporters at the palace compound that 400 orphans have been invited to break their fast along with the president and first lady on the first day of the fasting month of Ramadhan.

"Today, the president will break his fast along with 400 orphans, and her office has been assigned the responsibility to invite them," the minister noted.

"It is an important part of the education process for all community members, and it is hoped that through this gesture, a sense of solidarity among the community members will be strengthened during Ramadhan, and the president will express his appreciation for the children by breaking the fast with them at the palace," she remarked.

According to the invitations, the children are from 12 orphanages in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

Several cabinet ministers were seen accompanying the president including Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim, Coordinating Minister for Security, Political and Legal Affairs Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil, and Coordinating Minister for Human Resource Development Puan Maharani.
