Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President M Jusuf Kalla left for Singapore here, Sunday morning, to attend a celebration marking the 50th anniversary of the neighboring countrys Independence .

"The vice president left for Singapore on behalf of President Joko Widodo, to attend the celebration of Singapores 50th Independence Day to be held on Sunday evening, August 9, 2015," the vice president secretariat said in a press statement.

Vice President M Jusuf Kalla and Mme. Mufidah Kalla departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma air force base on Sunday at 7 a.m. local time.

During his stay in Singapore, Kalla is also scheduled to deliver a speech in a seminar organized by Indonesian Students Association (PPI) International at the Indonesian embassy in the tiny nation.

Kalla will return to Jakarta on Monday morning (August 10).

Singapore, former British colony, is celebrating its separation from Malaysia on August 9.

From carnivals to march-pasts, each observance ceremony will give its own unique way of marking the occasion and celebrating Singapores 50th birthday, the Straits Times reported.

Many will also include nostalgic sights, sounds and activities to recreate the mix of anxiety and optimism that marked Singapores first day as an independent nation 50 years ago.(*)
