All these need to be expedited," Jokowi said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo has called for making foolproof preparations and drawing up detailed plans for organizing the 18th Asian Games in the country in 2018.
He gave a call for this during the course of a limited cabinet meeting on the subject, held at his office here on Friday, to assure himself that preparations were proceeding well and reminding that it was an international event.
"I want everything to be prepared well, including development of infrastructure, means and facilities, including housing for athletes and officials. All these need to be expedited," he said.
He also drew attention to prepare airports and public transportation facilities.
"If any legal cover is needed to expedite or enable such preparations, or support needed from any ministries/state institutions, please immediately submit the concept," he said.
President Joko Widodo called on all parties to work intensively and expeditiously while there is still time to conduct checks and re-checks.
"Do not work as if it is business as usual. Look for breakthroughs, make efforts to speed up (the preparation). I want this big event to be taken seriously and all efforts be made for that. I really hope the Asian Games 2018 will be a great success," he said.
"I hope that meetings are held every week so that any problems could be immediately resolved," he said.
He hoped that by the end of 2016, all venues and fields that are needed for the event will be available and readied.
The 18th Asian Games events will be held in Jakarta, South Sumatra, Banten and West Java.(*)
