Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Four Indonesian high school students took home medals from the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) held at the Los Angeles Convention Center in the United States from May 14 to 19.

At the event, the four Indonesian students showcased three independent researches, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) said in a press statement released on Sunday.

The Indonesian student who won a grand award from the event is Latifah Maratun Sholikhah of state senior high school SMA 1 in Teras, Boyolali district, Central Java.

Latifah was awarded the fourth winner of grand awards for the category of social sciences and behavior through her independent research titled "Abandoned Children: Case Study, Public Stance on HIV/AIDS-Infected Children in Six Sub-districts in Surakarta.

Besides the grand award, she also received Honorable Mentions from the American Physiological Association.

Latifah was also once awarded first place for social sciences and humanity in the 48th youth scientific writing contest (LKIR) held by LIPI in 2016.

Azizah Dewi Suryaningsih of state senior high school SMA Negeri 1 in Yogyakarta was awarded the third winner of special award from the American Geosciences Institute through her independent research titled Bamboo Forest as a Natural Levee of Pyroclastic Flows in Merapi Volcano.

Azizah was also once awarded first place for geographic and maritime sciences in the 48th LKIR.

Bagus Putra and Made Prasanta of state senior high school SMA Negeri Bali Mandara were awarded the third winner of special award from the American Meteorological Society through their independent research titled Smart Digital Psychrometer for Forecasting Local Weather.

They also once won a gold medal from the Indonesian Student Researchers Olympiad 2016 held by the Education and Culture Ministry.

This time Intel ISEF was participated in by 1,778 high school students from 78 countries, regions and territories. LIPI has taken part in Intel ISEP since 2011.
