Medan (ANTARA News) - PT Inalum (Persero), a state-owned primary aluminum producer, has boosted the exports of its product to Malaysia and other countries as a strategic step to become a global aluminum company.

"Inalum continues to establish cooperation with buyers outside the Indonesian market, as was done on Tuesday by exporting 20,000 tons of aluminum ingots to Trafigura Pte. Ltd, in Port Klang Malaysia," President Director of PT Inalum Budi G. Sadikin stated at Tanjunggading, Medan, on Wednesday.

He noted that exports to Malaysia would be a real step to make PT Inalum a leading company.

Sadikin is harboring aspirations of Inalum being able to make Indonesia as one of the global players in the aluminum market.

The exports of aluminum ingots this year is projected to reach 40 thousand tons, or worth US$79 million.

Japan, Switzerland, Singapore, England, Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and the Netherlands are the export destination countries.

Inalum also projects the exports of minerals, coal and downstream products to be worth $2.51 billion in 2018. This figure increased by 33 percent as compared to $1.89 billion in 2017.

The increase was mainly supported by the export performance of PT Bukit Asam Tbk and PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam).

From January to August 2018, the Mining Industry Holding recorded a growth in export value of $1.57 billion, or 83 percent of last year`s achievement of $1.89 billion.

The improvement in export performance is in accordance with the mandate of the establishment of the Mining Industry Holding to become a world-class company.

To this end, Inalum continues to pursue various targets, such as the development of production capacity to reach one million tons and an increase in foreign exchange through aluminum export activities.
