Tegal, C Java, (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has ordered the management of rest areas along toll roads to provide outlets selling local foods to help the development of economic growth spots.

"I have ordered the public works and housing minister, the mayor, and the district head (of Tegal) to build rest areas selling local products or foods after it (the construction of toll roads) is completed. There has been a proposal from the mayor and district head (to build outlets) selling salter eggs, tofu, Tegal satay and onion," the president remarked after inaugurating the Pemalang-Batang toll road section in Central Java on Friday.

The president noted that rest areas should not mostly sell imported products as they did in the past.

Imported products are sometimes needed to attract buyers, but local products must dominate the merchandise sold in the rest areas, he noted.

In response to queries on whether the traders will be exempt from rents to use space in the rest areas, he revealed that the minister, mayor, and district head will discuss it.

"Whoever runs the business (in the rest areas) will be selected," he stated.

During the inauguration of the toll road section, the president was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, State Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno, and Agrarian and Spatial Layout Minister/Head of the National Land Agency Sofyan Djalil.
