Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has urged the Social Affairs Ministry to closely supervise the distribution of social benefits and allowances to prevent fraud.

"We have taken several steps, for instance, correcting data of recipients of social allowances. This is important in order to prevent fraud," KPK Commissioner Laode Muhammad Syarif noted here, Monday, while speaking at a workshop organized by the Social Affairs Ministry to observe International Anti-Corruption Day.

The government has decided to double the budget for social benefits and allowances to Rp54 trillion in 2019 through the Social Affairs Ministry`s programs of Family of Hope and Non-Cash Food Assistance, among others.

Social Affairs Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized the importance of establishing cooperation with the KPK to supervise the funds for social allowances.

"This is because the amount of the funds is not small. The money is paid by public taxes. Hence, the Social Affairs Ministry is committed to implementing clean and good governance practices," the minister stated.

The ministry has also applied six principles: the right target, on time, the right amount, good quality, the right prices, and appropriate administration.
