"Yes, there was a strong earthquake in Talaud Islands, North Sulawesi, at 10.39 am Central Indonesia Standard Time (WITA) on Saturday," Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Public Relations Head Taufan Maulana confirmed.
He said the epicenter of the earthquake was located at 5.85 degrees North Latitude and 126.81 degrees Eastern Longitude, some 201 kilometers northeast of Talaud Islands.
Taufan added that the BMKG was waiting for further information regarding whether the earthquake had a potential to trigger a tsunami or not.
"We are still waiting for information from friends at the National Earthquake Center," he said.
