Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Presidential candidate Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the recruitment of civil apparatuses has been carried out in a transparent manner during his time in office in order to minimize corruption in government agencies.

"We have done it now. For example, in the recruitment of civil apparatuses, we do all the process openly. Everything can be checked. Whether one`s child is accepted or not, anyone can check," said Jokowi in response to a debate question at Bidakara hotel in Jakarta, Thursday, Jan 17.

In the theme of the debate about corruption and terrorism, Jokowi chose the envelope marked A which contained the question "To occupy public office, very high costs are often needed; so after occupying a position, corruption became unavoidable. What is your strategy for overcoming these high-cost politics?"

Jokowi believed that the principle of recruitment and auction of bureaucrat positions in government offices must be based on human resource competencies, not based on financial capability or the nepotism approach of candidates or civil apparatuses themselves.

"Therefore, for bureaucratic officials, recruitment must be transparent, simple, and with clear standards," he said.

As for political office, he said that it was necessary to simplify the political party system in the country; so that the implementation of elections and regional elections will not require high costs.

"There need to be simplification in our party system, so that elections can cost less. Officials are not burdened by election costs. We hope to cut money politics, cut bribes, and cut corruption off completely," he said.

"And we can get public officials who have integrity and good capacity; and we hope that with these recruitment, positions, be it sub-district head, or mayor, be it governor and so on, we will get the best ones from the children of our nation, "he said.
