Pontianak, West Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Incumbent President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) highlighted the significant progress in the development of border regions under his administration.

While delivering a speech at an open election campaign in Sungai Raya, Kubu Raya District, West Kalimantan Province, on Wednesday, Jokowi called on the public to draw comparisons between border region development today and in the past.

"I have paid a visit to West Kalimantan 10 times while visited others only thrice at the most. Hence, please compare the developmental progress in Entikong (Sanggau District), Nanga Badau (Kapuas Hulu District), and Aruk (Sambas District)," Jokowi stated.

Road infrastructure along the Indonesia-Malaysia border in West Kalimantan is currently smooth and in good condition, the president pointed out.

The head of state also shed light on the construction of a toll road for ensuring connectivity between Pontianak and Singkawang.

"In the near future, a team will visit to examine and conduct a feasibility study regarding the plan to construct the toll road," he stated.

Moreover, a Sambas bridge will soon be built, and the development of Kijing seaport is expected to be completed this year, Jokowi remarked.

"The development should be fair, so we could ensure the realization of social justice for all Indonesians," he affirmed.
Indonesia will organize simultaneous legislative and presidential elections across the country's 34 provinces on April 17, 2019, believed to be one of the world's most complex elections.

Of Indonesia's population totaling 260 million, more than 192.8 million are registered as illegible voters.

The General Election Commission (KPU) will set up a total of 801,838 polling stations in the world's largest archipelago, with over 17 thousand islands.

The 2019 presidential election, wherein Jokowi and Prabowo Subianto with again go head-to-head, is viewed by many as a repeat of the bitter 2014 presidential race. Seeking a second term, 57-year-old Jokowi has picked Ma'ruf Amin, 75, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) chairman, as his partner, while retired general Subianto, 67, has chosen Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, 49, a successful entrepreneur and Jakarta's ex-deputy governor, as his running mate.
