Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla harbors expectations that new leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the 2019-2023 term would work properly in ending corrupt practices in Indonesia.

"I am optimistic that the new KPK leaders would work well in eradicating corruption in this country," Vice President Kalla remarked at JCC Senayan Jakarta, Friday.

Speaking in connection with parties disagreeing with the election of the new leaders, Kalla stated that the election process had been conducted in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.

Hence, the community must respect the process.

"As long as the election process is being conducted based on the rules and the Constitution, I think it must be accepted," he noted.

Speaking in connection with the resignation of Deputy Chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Saut Situmorang, Kalla clarified that the resignation was his personal right.

The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III had earlier named Firli Bahuri as the KPK chairman for the 2019-2023 period.

During the vote, Firli Bahuri gained 56 votes from House members, while former KPK commissioner Alexander Marwata bagged 53 votes; Jember University law faculty dean Nurul Ghufron, 51; high-judge Nawawi Pomolango, 50; and advocate Lili Pintauli Siregar, 44.
