Jakarta (ANTARA) - A suspected suicide bombing struck the police headquarters in Medan, North Sumatra on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m, allegedly committed by a person wearing Gojek (online-based motorbike taxi) jacket at its canteen area.

After this incident, security around the police headquarters located at MH Said Street, Medan, was stepped up. Some personnel of the police' Mobile Brigade Corps guarded the entrance gate and safeguard traffic access into the location.

ANTARA observed that an ambulance has also prepared around the headquarters, while a team of the Indonesia Automatic Fingerprints Identification System (INAFIS) had arrived at the scene.

A spokesman of the Indonesian Police Brig.Gen. Dedi Prasetyo stated in Jakarta that the police's anti-terror squad (Densus 88) and the Regional Police of North Sumatera are currently conducting a crime scene investigation.

"We are now awaiting for the investigation result," he said.
