West Kalimantan Police's Drugs Unit arrested a 36-year-old housewife for her attempt to smuggle 20 grams of methamphetamine inside of rambutan fruits. (HO)Pontianak, W Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The West Kalimantan Police Drugs Unit thwarted the drug smuggling attempt of a 36-year-old female, identified as a housewife with the initial W, who attempted to hide 20 grams of methamphetamine inside the shells of rambutan fruits.
It was reported that she hoped to deliver the illegal drug to her husband, who is serving time in the Mempawah Correctional Facility.
"In order to deceive officers, she stored the methamphetamine inside of rambutans," said Director of the Drugs Unit of West Kalimantan Police, Gembong Yudha, in Pontianak on Thursday.
He said that the suspect is an alleged member of the correctional facility's drug ring, which has been uncovered.
"She was arrested when she was about to prepare the drugs to be smuggled into the Mempawah Correctional Facility," he said.
She then confessed to attempting to bring the drugs into the facility and hand them to her husband.
Gembong Yudha said his force will continue to investigate the case and the possible drug use inside of the correctional facility by monitoring inmates and tracking the source of supplies.
