Pontianak, W Kalimantan (ANTARA) - West Kalimantan police increased security in keeping with instructions of the National Police headquarters in Jakarta after an unidentified man attempted to trespass into Southeast Sulawesi Police's mobile brigade command post on June 20, 2020.

"In line with the instruction of the National Police headquarters, security has been intensified at the West Kalimantan police headquarters and all police precincts across the province," West Kalimantan Police spokesman Sen. Coms. Donny Charles Go notified journalists here, Wednesday.

Security for the police compounds and personnel has been stepped up not only on account of the recent incident but it also aligns with the police's standard operating procedures to protect the personnel, their families, and the public, at large, he stated.

National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Awi Setiyono had earlier noted that all police headquarters were instructed to intensify security after a criminal trespass attempt at the Southeast Sulawesi police's mobile brigade command post on June 20.

All on-duty police officers were also instructed to streamline a body security system to avert any untoward incident in the aftermath of a sudden machete attack on two policemen in Karanganyar District, Central Java Province, on June 21, he pointed out.

On that day, a man unexpectedly attacked Second Brigadier Hanif Ariyono, a driver of Deputy Chief of Karanganyar Police Commissioner Busroni's official vehicle, with a machete. Ariyono got injured on the back and neck as a result of the machete attack.

The attacker died of gunshot wounds on his leg.

On June 1, 2020, a lone wolf assaulted Brigadier Leonardo Latupapua, a policeman of the Daha Selatan police precinct in South Kalimantan Province. Latupapua succumbed to grave injuries following the early morning attack.

Before assaulting on-duty Brigadier Latupapua, the attacker set on fire a police patrol vehicle parked in the front yard of the police precinct, South Kalimantan Police spokesman Sen. Coms. Mochamad Rifa'I stated.

The assault that occurred at around 2:15 a.m. local time resulted in the suspect's death after he blatantly disregarded the police's order to surrender.

The police officers thereafter gunned down the suspect after which his body was taken to the Hasan Basyri Kandangan Public Hospital for a post-mortem examination, he revealed.

The police investigators conducted a preliminary investigation at the scene of crime during which they came across several items linked to the suspect's evidence of crime, including a jerrican of fuel for setting ablaze the police patrol car and a samurai sword.
