Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has appealed to all elements of the nation to work in unison from the country’s periphery to realize more “Indonesia-centric” development.

"In materializing one Indonesia, we have to work jointly to develop Indonesia fairly and equally and work towards Indonesia-centric development, starting from the periphery, villages, and foremost islands to the bordering regions," the head of state noted during the commemoration of the 92nd Youth Pledge Day aired by the Presidential Secretariat here on Wednesday.

Jokowi believes just and equitable development across regions will benefit all Indonesians as part of the nation. Hence, infrastructure development should focus on boosting inter-regional connectivity in Indonesia.

"People living in Papua, Aceh, and regions across the country are all part of Indonesia. They have contributed to the development of Indonesia," the president remarked.

The president believes that all must fight for upholding unity by respecting differences and maintaining tolerance and the sovereignty of Indonesia. The spirit of solidarity must be prioritized to help one another.

"We have to work jointly to maintain the Indonesian identity along with the spirit of solidarity and brotherhood," he stated.

The head of state also called on the nation to uphold the spirit of the Youth Pledge that has evoked positive energy to unify the nation.

"The Youth Pledge has brought positive energy that surmounts over differences and competition without ignoring common problems, interests, and goals," Jokowi stated.
