The flooding in Pamekasan City was the second of its kind in the past week.Pamekasan, E Java (ANTARA) - Floods inundated houses in five urban communities (kelurahan) and three villages in Pamekasan District, East Java, on Saturday following unremitting rains lashing since the past 48 hours.
The floodwaters began to besiege the capital of Pamekasan District on Friday (Dec 18) at around 8 p.m. local time. By Saturday afternoon, the floods spread to other areas, with the water levels rising.
On Friday night (Dec 18), floods affected only three urban communities and two villages, with floodwaters reaching heights of 20 to 60 centimeters. However, one-meter-high floodwaters submerged several places.
The Jungcangcang urban community residing in proximity to the overflowing river bore the maximum brunt of the flooding.
The floods spread to five urban communities and three villages on Saturday morning, with floodwaters ranging in heights from one to 1.5 meters. In areas close to the river, the floodwaters reached a height of two meters.
The five flood-affected urban communities are Gladak Anyar, Jungcangcang, Parteker, Patemon, and Barurambat Kota in Pamekasan City sub-district, while the three villages of Laden and Jalmak, Nyalabu in Pamekasan City sub-district and Lemper in Pademawu sub-district bore the brunt of the flooding.
"The flooding in Pamekasan City was the second of its kind in the past week," Head of the Pamekasan District Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) Akmalul Firdaus stated on Saturday.
On December 14, 2020, floods also inundated several houses in the Patemon urban community. However, the floodwaters soon subsided.
