Bogor, West Java (ANTARA) - Bogor City's COVID-19 Handling Task Force continues to apply the odd-even traffic rule to limit the number of vehicles and restrict residents' mobility during the extended enforcement of the level 4 public activity restrictions (PPKM) in areas in Greater Jakarta until Aug 16.

"The odd-even policy is extended to conform to the central government's decision to extend PPKM in Bogor City," Bogor Mayor and Head of the city's COVID-19 Handling Task Force Bima Arya stated here Wednesday.

The decision to continue the enforcement of odd-even traffic rule everyday until August 16, 2021 was taken after consultation with relevant authorities, especially the municipal police, Arya stated.

The traffic restriction regulation and the checkpoint locations remain the same, and weekly evaluation on the restriction outcome would be reported by the Bogor city police during the COVID-19 handling task force meeting, according to Arya.

Bogor City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Susatyo Purnomo Condro stated that the traffic restriction was aimed at monitoring and curbing residents' behavior and mobility during the PPKM enforcement period.

"By enforcing the odd-even traffic rule, we are optimistic that the residents will exercise greater discipline in allocating their time to buy groceries or do outdoor activities only at the permitted date," he affirmed.

Condro emphasized that residents should refrain from travelling on alternate days to lower the potential of COVID-19 transmission, and they should be bear in mind their vehicle registration number.

Cars with registration numbers ending in odd numbers are only allowed to pass the Bogor main avenues on odd calendar dates, and vice versa for cars bearing registration numbers that end in even numbers, he explained.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan had announced the extension of PPKM enforcement in the provinces of Java and Bali until August 16, with it being applicable to Bogor City.
