Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government launched the Solar Power Initiative Movement (Gerilya) Program, with the objective of preparing students to become clean energy activists through materials and experience sharing.

Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim stated that Gerilya was one of the independent study activities of Freedom Campus that produces clean energy activists with innovation capability.

"For one semester, Gerilya participants will study independently and will be accompanied with mentors for development of solar power plants as innovative clean energy solutions," Makarim remarked during the event to launch the online Gerilya Program observed here on Friday.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources projected the development of 32,000 megawatts energy from rooftop photovoltaic power stations, but capacity of the installed power stations in Indonesia only reaches 31 megawatts currently.

The government is streamlining the regulation on rooftop photovoltaic power stations in order to draw the interest of the public and industry to use clean energy.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif is optimistic that the use of rooftop photovoltaic power stations would be accelerated via active participation of all parties, including students, through the Gerilya Program.

The Gerilya Program will be conducted on the Spada Indonesia website, managed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, with 10 study topics that comprise assignments and quizzes.

For the first three months, students will receive materials, both virtually and face-to-face, concerning engineering, commercial, and marketing knowledge.

Thereafter, they will receive direct training from rooftop photovoltaic power station entrepreneurs to help them develop solar power through market survey, business strategy, and promotion.
